My work as a Toxic Job Recovery Coach sits at the intersection of lived experience, professional experience, and trauma-informed coaching.
A few years ago, I was blindsided and betrayed at a toxic job. The experience changed the way I felt in my body, how I saw myself, how I related to other people, and eventually, how I thought about work itself.
When I went looking for answers, I found plenty of information about toxic workplaces and how to leave them, but very little about how to recover from what happened after you leave.
I didn't want to sit around waiting for other people to change, a new job to make me feel better, or time alone to heal me. I wanted to understand what had happened to me and what I could actually do to help myself recover.
So I went deeper.
I immersed myself in the study of workplace psychology, trauma, nervous system regulation, workplace manipulation, organizational behavior, and how difficult work experiences can continue to affect us long after they happen.
I brought that knowledge together with more than two decades of experience inside corporate systems, including leadership, Human Resources, recruiting, and coaching hundreds of professionals through difficult workplace situations.
That combination of what I've lived, what I've learned, and what I've witnessed through my work with others became the foundation for Work Is Not Family and the Toxic Job Recovery Framework.
Today, I help professionals recover from toxic jobs by rebuilding safety in four essential relationships: their body, themselves, other people, and work, so they can move forward in a way that honors both their experience and their future.

Here's what my values mean, and how you’ll experience them when we work together.
I name the harm. I speak openly about workplace abuse and trauma, and I never gaslight my clients into making peace with systems or people that are hurting them. My work is grounded in honesty, not toxic positivity.
I create a confidential, non-judgmental space where clients can speak freely and process their experiences without fear of being minimized or dismissed. I'm trained in trauma-informed coaching and nervous system regulation, and I center those practices in every session.
I don’t tell clients what to do. I provide tools, education, and strategy that allow them to make informed, empowered decisions for themselves, even in high-stakes environments.
My coaching is about reclaiming agency — with your thoughts, your choices, your nervous system, and your life and work. I help clients define success on their terms and build lives and careers that support their well being, not sacrifice it.
Hey, I'm Katie Jean.
I am a trauma-informed toxic job recovery coach with a background in Human Resources and more than 20 years of experience inside corporate systems.
I've worked in small family-owned businesses and large organizations, with and without HR departments. Throughout my career, I've led teams, recruited talent, coached professionals, and been immersed in employee relations, supporting people through workplace conflict, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, hostile work environments, and some of the most difficult moments of their careers.
This work is personal to me.
I do it because I know what it feels like to be blindsided, betrayed, and broken by a toxic workplace. I also know how confusing it is to keep functioning on the outside while feeling like you've lost yourself on the inside.
Today, I help professionals recover from those experiences so they can feel like themselves again, take their power back, and move forward with confidence. My goal isn't just to help people process what happened. It's to help them become stronger because of it.

I'm direct, honest, and compassionate. I'll tell you the truth, but I'll never shame you for where you are.
I don't believe in toxic positivity. Recovery means making space for the full range of human emotions, not pretending everything is okay.
I have zero tolerance for abusive leadership. I'll never encourage you to minimize or excuse behavior that causes harm.
I love understanding how people work. Learning about trauma, the nervous system, and workplace dynamics has been one of the most meaningful parts of my own recovery.
I believe in doing hard things. I've completed multiple marathons and three 75 Hard challenges, and I bring that same commitment to the work I do with my clients.
I'm a wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend, and coach. Being an employee is one part of who we are, not our entire identity.
Sarcasm is definitely one of my love languages. Recovery doesn't have to be serious every minute of the day.
Outside of work, you'll usually find me with my dogs, eating Mexican food, watching reality competition shows, or playing Skip-Bo with my family. ❤️
